Do I Have a Bed Bug Infestation? Look For These Signs
A common question we get asked is, “Do I have a bed bug infestation?” Until we can actually see the area, we can’t give a definite answer to the question. However, if you happen to be wondering if you have bed bugs, looking for the signs can help you determine if you have them or not. And if you do find a bed bug infestation, the sooner you start the process of getting rid of them, the better the chance of a quick and easy removal. Here are the signs of bed bugs you want to look for.
Bed Bug Bites
Bites from bed bugs are useful as they can let us know they are around. Their bites typically appear in groups on the face, neck, chest, back, hands, or face. These red welts usually itch. However, they can look like flea or mosquito bites.
Rusty-colored stains on your sheets may be a sign of bed bugs. These reddish streaks can occur when you squash one of these bugs by rolling over in bed.
Bed bugs have to relieve themselves just like the rest of us. When they do, it will usually be on the bed leaving behind black stains that look like a felt tip pen may have marked the sheets. You may also find these spots along seams and edges of your mattress or box springs. Not sure if what you are seeing is bug poo? If the spot smears when wiped with a wet cloth, chances are it’s not bed bug fecal matter.
Eggs and Eggshells
Bed bugs will leave their eggs and empty eggshells behind on your bed along seams or tiny crevices of headboards and furniture. They are tiny, about the size of a grain of rice and translucent to white in color.
Adult Bed Bug
Along with looking for signs of bed bugs, you may even find the actual adult bug. These parasites are great at hiding, so even if you do have an infestation you may never see the culprit. They are typically a brown color and oval-shaped. These bugs are flat and are about the size of a seed from an apple.
